Torre defensiva de Ababuj

It is a slender square tower, six and a half metres on each side, topped with battlements, intended to fulfil a totally defensive function. It was probably built in the 16th century, when the town was still a hamlet of the Community of Teruel, within the sesma of Campo de Monteagudo.

It is built with an excellent ashlar masonry construction, and the doorway has a pointed arch with large voussoirs, situated at a height of one metre. On the upper floor we can see some large semicircular windows, which open with semicircular openings, and which would probably have served as a bell tower to alert the inhabitants of the surrounding area, as there is no trace of any hermitage or similar building having existed there.
