Ababuj is a village placed in a strategic point overlooking the upper valley of the Alfambra, its location, its privileged location has allowed it to write great stories in its memory.

NATURAL HERITAGE

Yacimiento de icnitas site of dinosaur ichnites, declared a site of cultural interest. The Ababuj ichnite site is located in Upper Jurassic strata, according to Gautier’s cartography (1980). It contains isolated tracks, although some of them may belong to the tracks of a single individual. Most of them are oval in shape, but there are also tridactyls. The oval ones show a variety in their dimensions, which indicates a diversity of sizes of individuals and/or the circumstances at the time of the footprint

Bank of the river Seco. Ravine next to the town centre, through which the river Seco flows.

Bank of the río Mayor. Next to the river Blanco, vegetation such as poplars and blackberries grows. A small part of the village of Ababuj is part of the ZEPA “Parameras del Alfambra” (Bird Protection Area).

Routes:

Route of Camino Real : Jorcas Cedrillas (PR – TE 45) The first part of the route follows the PR.TE-45, which goes from Jorcas to Monteagudo del Castillo. In this section you will go towards Ababuj where you will find an interpretation table that refers to the Valle Alto de Alfambra. Length 22 km.

Route of the Miradores. It runs through twenty villages, in fifteen of them there are observation points and in another four there are viewpoints equipped with interpretation material. It arrives at Ababuj from Aguilar and continues towards El Pobo, it has a route of 200 km

The Castle Route.

HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

 

Church of Santa Ana, built in the 16th century and enlarged in the 18th century, in Gothic-Baroque style. It was built in masonry with a modern cornice, tile and brick. It has three naves with four sections and a polygonal chancel, covered with half-barrel vaults with lunettes. In the 18th century, an octagonal chapel was added next to the chancel. The square tower is located on the axis of the apse and is divided into two sections, the lower one of masonry and the upper one of brick.

Torre Vieja, (Old Tower), which dominates the whole village. It is a crenellated tower from the 14th century, which was part of the old castle. It was a defensive tower of great strategic value as it dominated the entire upper valley of the Alfambra.

Hermitage of Santa Ana, from the 17th century, decorated with Mudejar inspiration. It consists of a nave of masonry and stonework, covered with a half-barrel vault. Its base is covered with a Latin inscription. The atrium that precedes it is supported by stone columns with beautiful wooden corbels.

FESTIVALS AND TRADITIONS

San Antón, 17th January. Where bonfires and dancing take place.

Traditional pilgrimage of the Manjanos, the weekend closest to 26 April. A prayer in the chapel of Santa Ana to the Manjanos. Its purpose is to ask for rain, blessing  the land. The Manjanos are piles of stones on the bodies of men killed in the defence of Ababuj.

Patron saint festivities of Santiago and Santa Ana, on 25 and 26 July
