El Pobo

We leave you a little information about the reproductions that you will find in El Pobo.

Birgerbohlinia, a giraffe that did not have a long neck.

Birgerbohlinia, Schaubi is a species of extinct giraffe, belonging to the subfamily of Sivatines, whose fossils have been found in various deposits inSpain such as, among others, Puente Minero (Teruel municipality), which was formed 7.5- 8.5 million years ago. Its dimensions are similar to those of the current okapi but its bones were much more robust and indicate a much greater body mass. Its most distinctive feature was the two pairs of large cranial protrusions (osiconos) that adorned its skull.

Today’s giraffes also have osicones, although much smaller, and their long necks are characteristic of recent species, as they aren’t found in their ancestors; the length of these necks doesn’t seem to be linked to the classical view that attributes their origin to the advantage they provide for feeding on the treetops.

Amphimachairodus, a large “saber tooth”

Amphimachairodusgiganteus is a species of extinct felid, belonging to the subfamily of the Macairodontins or “saber-toothed felids”. Its fossils have been found in several Spanish deposits, including some located in the Teruel term, such as Cerro de la Garita (Concud), Los Mansuetos, Milagros, El Arquillo and Las Casiones (Villalba Baja), which were formed 6-7 million years ago.
