Escultura Turiasaurius Riodevensis
In Riodeva you can see the largest dinosaur sculpture in Europe.
Within Dinoexperience, our proposal to tour the Teruel region through Paleontology, we have the Giant route, a route that takes its name from the find found in Riodeva.
In this municipality were found the bones of the European giant, the Turiasaurus riodevensis. It was in 2003 when one of the most important paleontological findings of the province of Teruel occurred, more than 40% of the skeleton of this new species of dinosaur had been found.
For this reason a sub-site of Dinópolis, Titania, of course dedicated to Gigantism, was built in Riodeva, centered on the Turiasaurus riodevensis, the largest dinosaur in Europe and one of the largest in the world, measuring more than 30 meters and weighing about 40 tons. If you visit Titatina you can see the life-size replica of the previous half of the giant’s skeleton.
However, we could not see the life-size dinosaur without going to the headquarters of Dinópolis in Teruel and since Turiasaurus lived and died in Riodeva, a life-size sculpture of Turiasaurus riodevensis has been installed, 30 meters long and 10 meters high. The artist who has created, sculpted and painted it is Luis Zafrilla, who through his technique has given life to it.
This sculpture is located in a viewpoint, climbing to the Amanaderos and is visible from all over the town.
