Encomienda de Montegaudio. Alfambra
Encomienda de Montegaudio
Alfambra
Rodrigo Álvarez III Count of Sarria, one ofthe founders of the Order of Santiago, chooses to abandon it and creates, with the approval of Pope Alexander III, the Order of Santa Maria de Monteagudo. The King of Aragón Alfonso II “El Casto”, gave the castle of Alfambra to the aforementioned Order in order to defend the new conquered lands. From then on, the Alfambrinos will go up to the castle every Easter to pay their tribute to those who provided them protection.
Proclamation of the Commander: Every year a person whose work or career is considered remarkable for the municipality is elected as Commander of the town. This figure actively participates in most of the acts that take place during the MonteagudoEncomienda.
Appointment of the Master of the Order of Monteagudo.
Council of Commanders: which aims to address different issues in each edition relates to the history of Alfambra and its Military Orders.
Ordination of Knights and Ladies: It represents the protocol followed by the military orders, in this case that of Monteagudo, to name the knights who were part of them and shows the personalities that intervened in the act and the treatment that was given to the applicants, before and after being knighted.
Parades: the military orders carry out various parades during this holiday. It should be noted the climb to the castle on Saturday night where the payment of tributes to the Commander is represented. The ascent to the castle is done with the fireworks lit and the sound of the drums of the Tierra Roja Drum and Drum Association that give the atmosphere to the parade. The ascent culminates with the reading of a fragment of the Fuero de Alfambra by the Commander at the top of the castle.
Planted poplar: the deep-rooted tradition of cutting down one of the poplars in the Alfamvras valley and planting it on the night of Holy Saturday in the church square, is integrated into the program of this festival. The residents of Alfambra join forces to raise the poplar that the fifths will have to watch over the night and cut irdoen the following morning.
The first edition of the Subida a la Encomienda de Alfambra took place in 2005. In 2014 it was declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of Aragon.
